Crypto on the go: finding taxi services, ride-sharing, and rentals that accept cryptocurrency

Cryptocurrencies are steadily gaining ground as a legitimate payment method, and it’s only a matter of time before they become as commonplace as credit and debit cards. More and more businesses are opening their doors to customers who want to pay with Bitcoin or Ethereum, and the list of crypto-accepting companies is already quite impressive.

Taxi services, ride-sharing companies, and car rentals were among the early adopters of this new technology, and for good reason: implementing cryptocurrency payment systems is a win-win for both businesses and customers. Everyone benefits from the safe, secure, and fast transactions that blockchain technology makes possible.

Uber (Indirectly): While Uber doesn’t yet accept cryptocurrency directly, you can pay for rides with Bitcoin using the Fold app. Fold converts your Bitcoin into a gift card balance, which you can then use to pay for your Uber ride. Plus, you earn rewards in Satoshis (a fraction of a Bitcoin) for every transaction, making it even more advantageous than using traditional currency. There’s hope that Uber will soon accept Bitcoin directly, as the CEO has hinted at exploring cryptocurrency payments.
Lyft (For Healthcare): Lyft offers crypto payments to a specific group of customers through a partnership with Solve.Care, a blockchain-based healthcare company. Users of Solve.Care’s Care.Wallet app can schedule Lyft rides to hospitals or pharmacies and pay with Solve coin, the company’s own cryptocurrency.
Ryde (Singapore): This Singaporean carpooling company takes a more direct approach. Ryde allows users to convert their Bitcoin into Ryde Coin, the company’s own cryptocurrency, using a built-in crypto wallet. This has helped Ryde attract a following of crypto enthusiasts in Singapore, Australia, and Hong Kong.
Other Taxi Companies Around the World:
- STM Transfers (Slovenia): Offers standard rides and car rentals with a driver who also acts as a bodyguard. Accepts Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Litecoin through GoCrypto.
- Cooperativa Radiotaxi 3570 (Italy): The largest taxi fleet in Rome accepts Bitcoin through the Chainside platform, which converts the Bitcoin payment into euros for the company.
- HeXCars (England): Operates in Bristol and offers various services, including airport transfers and pet taxis. Customers can pay with Bitcoin by scanning a QR code on the company’s website.

Car rentals:

Lurento (Europe): Offers exotic and sports car rentals across Europe and accepts Bitcoin as payment.
Qeek (Global): A global car rental company offering more budget-friendly options that also accepts Bitcoin. Payments are processed through BitPay.

Private jet rentals:

PrivateFly: This company was the first private jet rental service to accept Bitcoin and now also accepts Ethereum and Bitcoin Cash. They use BitPay to process transactions.

A growing trend

The adoption of cryptocurrencies in the transportation industry, from taxis to private jets, shows that there’s a clear demand for this technology. As cryptocurrencies become more mainstream, we can expect even more businesses to embrace Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other digital coins, making them even more valuable and accessible.
